When i’m rambling on how we should gather a big portion of inspiration from The Old American Indians way of life, living in simple teepees, etc, and perceive Mother Earth as SACRED- people might believe i want to see man living PRIMTIVE– BUT, i don’t wanna live in a world without e.g electricity– I SIMPLY WANT that electricity, that cement, that steel, used with some SPIRITUAL VALUE, like the Indians had a spiritual awareness, PERMEATED IN EVERYTHING in their Tribal Societies – SO, hence the electricity, or buildings–OR ANYTHING, REALLY, to be used for spiritual AND aesthetic use – like a world that is PURELY SPECTACULAR & APPEAR AS DIVINE.. As to put it simply; A WORLD THAT *ACTUALLY IS* AESTHETICALLY PLEASING as a MORE SENSUAL-CONCEPTION of EARTH – a world more FANCY-ELEGANT, more PSYCHEDELICALLY-SUBLIME, with an Psychedelic vision of our entire society– THIS WORLD, this world is TOO STRAIGHT!
For our world may be very functional, advanced and SMART – but it lacks gravely in the AESTHETIC, and is not very PSYCHEDELIC, fancy or groovy– it’s not created in the sense, a likeness of, something from a COMIC/CARTOON, an illustration as something by A FANTASY; that kind of FUSSY, CARTOONISH, PSYCHEDELIC AESTHETICS – man is like a TRIVIAL-BARBARIAN, this world is like THE OLD ROME, and will collapse..
Man is not INSANE ENOUGH – to have a vision about something WHIMSICAL, SWEET, OR CUTE, in how he design his urban, modern, world- the world is like a JEEP, when it could have been a PORSCHE…OR some old American Cadillac, with that old design that counters STRAIGHTNESS – and has an PSYCHEDELIC kind of concept of shapes and aesthetics – if you look at cars you can see how an old Cadillac WAS MORE PSYCHEDELIC IN IT’S DESIGN – but with buildings, EVERYTHING – even people’s perception of reality is TOO STRAIGHT, AS WITH EVERYTHING, and it always has been – Mankind is a cancer gone rampant and it has all been “GROWING FOR THE SAKE OF GROWTH”..
Edward Abbey famously stated, “Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of a cancer cell”. This quote, often used to criticize unrestrained economic expansion, highlights Abbey’s view that unchecked growth, particularly in the context of environmental exploitation, is destructive and unsustainable. He argued that a focus on endless economic expansion, without considering its impact on the environment and society, mirrors the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells.
Abbey, a writer and essayist known for his environmental advocacy, used his work to critique public land policies and advocate for the preservation of wilderness. His quote emphasizes that prioritizing growth above all else can lead to the degradation of natural resources and a disregard for the long-term consequences of unsustainable practices. This perspective aligns with his broader philosophy that values wilderness and ecological balance over unchecked development and industrialization.
